Lancewitsky family name origin

The family name Lancewitsky is of toponymic origin. It originates from the village which original Polish name was Lancewitsy. Later the village name сhanged to its Belarussian version – Lancewichy. The village is located in the central part of Belarus.

One should distinguish the family name Lancewitsky from the family name Lancewsky. The latter is as well of the toponymic origin but it is associated with a different geographical place. It comes from the town called Lanzow. The town is located in the north-east of modern Czech republic at the border with Poland.
