The name Hurgin is rather rare. About such names one can say with high degree of certainty that all people with this name are relatives.
Dr. Alexander Beider in his dictionary of names of Russian Jews suggests a very interesting origin of the name. He says that apparently the name Hurgin is a derivative of the name Horeg
that in turn comes from the Hebrew word "horeg" - standing out. By this word people also called (and continue to call today) step children (ben horeg).
All people from this family come from Belorussia (Pinsk, Bobruisk, Parichi, Vitebsk, Minsk). Today members of this family lives in the USA, Israel and Russia.
