Origin of the name Medvinsky

A well-known specialist on the origin of Jewish names, Alexander Beider says that Medvinskis originally lived in Ukraine and more exactly, probably in the shtetl Medvin of Boguslav region of the Kiev gubernia. Medvinsky is not only a Jewish name it occurs often among other peoples too.
By the end of the 19-th century people with the name Medvinsky already lived throughout major part of the Kiev gubernia. They lived in Tarasch, Kanev, Korsun, Berdichev, Belaya Tserkov and others. With the beginning of the great immigration of Jews from Russia, part of them left to Argentina, part to the USA and part to Palestine (Israel).
