Выдающийся талмудист. Был сначала рош-иешивот в Жагорах, раввином в Гольдингене (с 1830 г.), а затем в Тельшах, где и ум. в 1858 г. Л. — автор примечаний к кодексу Маймонида, "הידא" — примечаний к Талмуду и Альфаси (напечатано в последнем виленском издании Талмуда) и к Орах Хаим, Иоре Деа и Турим (напечат. в виленском издании Турим, 1880). Автор комментария Агаот Бен Арье, который печатается в приложении к большинству изданий Талмуда.
