Amy Schumer - Biography
Amy Beth Schumer (born June 1, 1981) is an American stand-up comedian. She placed fourth on NBC's Last Comic Standing Season 5, and she placed second on Comedy Central's Reality Bites Back.
Life and career
Schumer was born to a Jewish family. She is originally from Long Island, New York. Schumer attended South Side High School, where she participated in theatre and volleyball. Schumer was voted both "Class Clown" and "Teacher's Worst Nightmare" upon graduation in 1999. Schumer received a BA in theatre at Towson University in 2003. She also graduated from the William Esper Studio.
After college, Schumer moved to New York City to become an actress. Schumer portrayed a young woman diagnosed with breast cancer in the off-Broadway Show Keeping A Breast. Amy started doing stand-up comedy on June 1, 2004, where she first performed at Gotham Comedy Club.
Amy's favorite comedians are Louis CK, Bill Burr, Dave Attell, Jim Norton, Wendy Liebman, Sarah Silverman, Margaret Cho, and Ellen DeGeneres. She is also a New York Mets fan.
On February 22, 2008, Amy was the guest co-host on the XM radio show "The Black Phillip Show", hosted by New York comedian Patrice Oneal. In 2009, she appeared in a Butterfinger Snackerz commercial.
Schumer made appearances on the Opie and Anthony show three times in 2010 and in 2011. She is a frequent guest on Fox News late-night program Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld. She was the first female comic to perform Stand-up on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and the Ellen Degeneres Show. Her first Comedy Central Presents special aired on April 2, 2010. On 3 June 2010, Amy was a guest co-host on the "Jim Norton Show" on XM radio show Channel Raw Dog XM 150.
In April 2011, Amy was listed as one of Splashlife's 30 Under 30: Comedians To Watch. On August 5, 2010, it was announced that Amy would co-host "A Different Spin With Mark Hoppus" (now "Hoppus on Music") with Mark Hoppus of Blink-182.
On September 19, 2011, she was one of the roasters on Comedy Central Roast: Charlie Sheen. On October 31, 2011, Schumer made her first appearance on The Howard Stern Show and said she had recently ended her two-year relationship with comedian Anthony Jeselnik. She has had roles on 30 Rock, Live at Gotham, and Hoppus on Music. Her comedy album Cutting was released in 2011, and she had roles on Delocated, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and the film Price Check. She has also contributed to Cosmopolitan.
