Maxim Rodshtein - Biography

Maxim Rodshtein (born 19 January 1989 in Leningrad) is an Israeli chess Grandmaster (since 2007). As of January 2009, his Elo rating is 2650, making him the #4 player in Israel and the #76 best player in the world. It was his peak rating so far. He won the World U-16 championship in Greece in 2004.

Rodshtein won the 2006 Israeli Chess Championship. He won the 25th Andorra International Open (30 June – 8 July 2007) in a three-way tie for first in a field of 101 players. Rodshtein has twice won 2nd place in the European Youth Championship.

Rodshtein was a member (Board 5) of the Israeli Chess Olympic team in November 2008 scoring 7 out of 9 and contributing to the silver medal. In particular he was responsible for Israel’s win against the Olympic champion, Armenia. A few months later he was offered by Armenia’s No. 1 Levon Aronian to work with him as a second. Rodshtein shared 1st in the 2008 Israeli championship, but didn’t retain the title due to inferior tie-break.

He is currently an Israeli Air Force soldier.
