Раввин, известен своим трёхтомным трудом Шеелот веТшувот Махарам Шик, освещающим весь круг жизни, комментируя Шульхан Арух. С 11 лет учился у своего дяди Ицхака Френкеля, с 14 - у Хатам Софера. С 1838 раввин и директор иешивы в Светы Юр в Словакии. В 1861 занимает пост раввина в городе Хуст на Украине, куда переводит свою иешиву с 800 учениками. Когда реформисткий иудаизм начал доминировать в Венгрии был одним из глав ортодоксальной оппозиции.
