Sean Kanan - Biography

Sean Kanan (born November 2, 1966) is an American actor.

Early life

He was born Sean Perelman in Cleveland, Ohio and was raised in New Castle, Pennsylvania. He attended Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania, Boston University and UCLA where he earned a degree in political science.

His family owns and operates Kings Jewelry.

Movie career

Kanan received his big break in The Karate Kid, Part III working for Academy Award-winning director John Avildsen. He then starred on the Fox Television series The Outsiders. Later he joined the cast of the ABC soap opera General Hospital playing A.J. Quartermaine from 1993–1997 and was nominated for outstanding newcomer by the Soap Opera Digest awards. In 1999, he joined the cast of NBC's soap opera Sunset Beach as Jude Cavanaugh and stayed until the end of the year, when the show left the air. Kanan wrote and executive produced Chasing Holden which starred DJ Qualls and distributed by Lionsgate. He later joined the cast of the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful portraying Deacon Sharpe, appearing from November 2000 until February 2005. Since leaving The Bold and the Beautiful he has starred in several feature films including Carpool Guy directed by Corbin Bernsen and competed in the third season of the Italian version of Dancing with the Stars in 2006. On July 10, 2009, Kanan reprised his role as Deacon Sharpe in The Young and the Restless. In September 2009, Kanan starred in Indie film "Abracadabra", which was directed by Julie Pacino (Al Pacino's daughter) and is currently being considered at Cannes Film Festival. In May 2010, Kanan starred in "My Trip To The Dark Side" written and directed by Emmy Award winning Shane Stanley. In May 2011, Kanan starred in the sequel "My Trip Back to the Dark Side".

Personal life

As a teenager years prior to his role in The Karate Kid, Part III, Kanan originally trained in boxing before switching to Shotokan Karate and kickboxing at age 13. During the filming of the movie he trained in Shitō-ryū at a school run by Karate master Fumio Demura, and with stunt coordinator and Tang Soo Do master Pat E. Johnson.
