Suzi Oppenheimer - Biography

Suzanne "Suzi" Oppenheimer (born December 13, 1934) is an American politician from the state of New York. She has served since 1985 as a member of the New York State Senate, representing the 36th district until December 2002, and the 37th district since. A resident of Mamaroneck, her district is based in Westchester County. Prior to serving in the state senate she served four terms as mayor of the village of Mamaroneck.

Senator Oppenheimer sits on the Boards of the Child Care Action Campaign, the Westchester Community Opportunity Program, the Mental Health Association of Westchester, the Displaced Homemaker Program at Westchester Community College, St. Bernard’s Center for Learning, the Westchester Jewish Committee, and several other boards. Before her election to the Senate, Suzi Oppenheimer served four terms as Mayor of the Village of Mamaroneck. She also served as President of the Westchester Municipal Officials Association and President of the Westchester Municipal Planning Federation. Before her election as mayor, she was President of the Mamaroneck League of Women Voters and President of the PTA of the Central School in Mamaroneck.

Education

Senator Oppenheimer received her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Connecticut College for Women. She was one of the first women to earn a master’s degree from Columbia University's Graduate School of Business. Upon receiving her degree, she worked on Wall Street as an industry analyst for L.F. Rothschild.

Personal life

Suzi is married to Martin J. Oppenheimer, a partner in the law firm Proskauer Rose. The Oppenheimer's reside in Mamaroneck, where they raised four children.

2010 elections

On Monday, December 6, 2010, Bob Cohen conceded to Oppenheimer after a lengthy ballot count.
