This obituary, written by Bobbi, appeared in the program for Mario's memorial service: Mario Antonazzi, son of Enrico and Teresa Antonazzi, was born on January 11, 1921, in New York City. He was married to Irene Doodchenko for 46 years, until her death in 1992. They lived in New Jersey and Orient, New York. They had one daughter, Bobbi Antonazzi Jensen. During the Second World War, Mario served in the U.S. Army and worked on the Manhattan Project. In 1947, he recieved a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from The Cooper Union. After almost 30 years in the aerospace industry, he retired to devote full time to his art. Throughout the 1980's, he studied at The Art Students League of New York, where he received a grant for advanced studies in printmaking. His work has won numerous awards and is in private and corporate collections in several countries. Mario described his art in these words: My intention in my art is to state, poetically rather than literally, my impressions of the world we live in. Over the years, my approach has tended more and more toward simplication and abstraction of the image. Mario died peacefully on February 2. He is survived by his daughter; his sister and brother-in-law, Ida and Carmen Grasso; his brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Louise Antonazzi; eight nieces and nephews and their families; and his special friend, Jean Fries. He was predeceased by his wife and his sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Louis Grasso.
