Is root canal a major surgery?

 Root canal treatment is also called endodontic therapy, it is a sequenced process for the infected tooth pulp to eliminate the harmful bacteria and provide protection to the cured tooth from future bacteria invasion. A root canal is a dental therapy that includes the removal of infected the soft center of the tooth, the pulp. As, the pulp is made up of nerves, connective tissue, and blood vessels that help the tooth to grow. Majorly, a general dentist or endodontist will perform the treatment when you're under local anesthesia.

When the tooth is broken or has tooth decay, bacteria may enter the pulp. And if you don’t get it treated early, the harmful bacteria may cause a serious infection or a tooth abscess, leading to pulp loss, bone loss, and loss of the tooth itself. Symptoms may include swelling around your face and neck, a hole in your tooth, toothache, gum swelling.

 

Tooth root canal treatment is done to remove the bacteria from the infected root canal and saves the natural tooth. They may prescribe you antibiotics and place a temporary filling in the crown to protect the tooth and block debris and saliva. The patient should avoid biting or chewing on the tooth until it's been treated and restored.

Root canal cost differs as it depends on the affected tooth situation, the procedure, and the strength of the patient’s dental insurance plan. For the patients who are medically insured, root canal therapy can set them back an average of $200 — $500. But if you have no insurance the bill is nearly  $1,000.
