Benjamin Disraeli

Origin of the name Ganeles

The family name Ganeles similarly to the names Ganelin, Gannel and Ganelis came from the name of maternal ancestor of these families -Hana. That is, to be exact, the name should have sounded as Haneles. The letter "G" most likely has appeared because the family lived or moved to Ukraine where, as it is known, the letter "g" sounds almost like the Russian "h".

In comparison with other variants of the name, the name Ganeles is the least spread. Therefore it is most probable that members of the family Ganeles are relatives or descendants of a single family. Today this family is spread all over the world with about one hundred members residing in different area of the USA and many residing in different parts of Russia.
