Провел около 30 лет в Москве, где работал коммисионером мануфактурных товаров, совершая закупки для приезжих и по письменным заказам из разных городов России. Был главным габаем синагоги и защищал права евреев, в частности, выкупая арестованных приезжих евреев из полиции. После изгнания евреев из Москве в 1885 совершил алию.
