Работал инструктором коммунистической партии. Постоянно переезжал с семьей из города в город (куда партия пошлет). Последнее место работы перед войной - город Яново в Беларуси, расположенный недалеко от государтвенной границы. Во время войны по призыву ушел на фронт. Семья, быстро оказавшаяся на окупированной территории чудом выжила. Во время эвакуации их обогнал фронт, а они добрались до Минска уже без документов. Им удалось скрыть еврейское происхождение, благодаря чему они выжили.
