George Kalmus - Biography

George Ernest Kalmus, CBE, FRS (born 21 April 1935) is a British particle physicist.

Kalmus was educated at St Albans County Grammar School and University College, London.

He was Associate Director, 1986–94 and Director, 1994–97 of Particle Physics at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. He was Visiting Professor, Physics and Astronomy Department, 1984–2000, University College, London and has been a Fellow there since 1998.

He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1988 and made a CBE in 2000.

Kalmus's brother, Peter Kalmus, is also a renowned particle physicist. He is Emeritus Professor of Physics at Queen Mary, University of London, and was awarded the Rutherford Medal and Prize in 1988.

He has three daughters, (one of whom is married to John Hoye), and five grandchildren.

He currently resides in Abingdon with his wife, Ann.
