Гонимый погромами Хмельницкого, бежал с дочерью и зятем из родного города Вильно, в котором был даяном (судьей), в Моравию. Занимал пост раввина, сначала в Требиче, потом в Офене. В течение многих лет был раввином и главой ешивы в г. Буде (ныне Будапеште). Его труды включают: респонса "Шаар Эфраим" и комментарий к Пятикнижию "Махане Эфраим".
