Ab was born in Leningrad, USSR (now known as St Petersburg, Russian Federation). As a child she moved to Jerusalem with her parents. After being discharged from the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) as a sergeant she attended the prestigious Bezalel School of Art in Jerusalem. Elena moved to New York and attended the School of Visual Arts on a Chairman of the Board and Founder Scholarship Award and Executive Vice President Award. In 2001 she graduated with a BFA in painting. While still in school she started 368 Broadway Studio Inc. located in Tribeca (lower Manhattan, NYC). The mission of the studio began as and continues to be to create an environment where emerging artists can create, exhibit and sell their work. The artists the studio represents work in a variety of media including painting, drawing, and photography. In 2002 Elena participated in the Manhattan Borough Presidents Show titled “American Dream”. Here she explored the grittiness and glamour of New York nightlife. In 2008, 2009 and 2010 Elena participated in the Tribeca Open Artist Studio Tour (TOAST). In 2010 she served as Vice President of TOAST. She is no longer a member. In August 2009 Elena participated in a group show at the Jason Rulnick Gallery where she explored the influence of THE KING OF POP Michael Jackson’s life, music and death on our culture and psyche through a series of painted portraits received with great popular acclaim. She is continuing to explore this theme in greater depth with a new series of works soon to be available through ARTNET.com. Elena is a founding artist with Up Yours Gallery, a novel online retail venue and community, created by artists and art lovers, for artists and art lovers. Up Yours Gallery creates art that fits into your hand – novel Art Cards, the size of greeting cards, so anyone can enjoy and afford artwork from an exclusive group of leading edge artists. She has had two shows at The Museum of Russian Art in Jersey City, New Jersey. On April 19th 2013 Elena opened her own art gallery at 185 Church st. New York,N.Y. with a show titled “Celebrating Legends of Cinema and Iconic New York City”. The opening of Elena Ab gallery Tribeca was timed to coincide with the Tribeca Film Festival as an expression of her passion and deep connection to downtown Manhattan, the arts and the art of motion pictures.
