В 13 лет решил повеситься, предварительно приняв яд, но остался жить. Инженер и изобретатель. Строил в России мельницы и з-ды. Изобретатель в обл. пищ. пром-сти и технологии (маргарин, хлеб из цельного зерна). Учился в ун-те в Цюрихе, был чл. дискуссионного клуба, в к-ром принимал участие В.И.Ленин. С 1919 – в Э.-И. Вместе с братьями основал з-д «Шемен» в Хайфе. Там же построил крупнейшие мельницы и цементный з-д «Нешер». На собственные средства создал лаб. климатологии при Евр. ун-те. Участник междунар. конгр. инж.
