По неизвестным причинам покинул свой пост и Египет и поселился в Дамаске, где много сделал для еврейской общины и был прозван "Мордехай наших дней". Написал несколько книг, подготовил публикацию книг Рамбама и его сына Авраама. Во время его отсутствия в Египте пост нагида занимал рабби Амрам, упомянутый в документах 1377 и 1380 годов.
