    Польский офтальмолог еврейского происхождения, крестился в 1831 году. Сменил отцовскую фамилию Герц на Лео. Семья ассимилированных евреев, крещенных в лютеранстве. Леопольд Август Лео окончил университет Кенигсберга и получил звание доктора медицины. Предположительно в 1815 году он переехал в Варшаву, где он имел медицинскую практику. В 1838-1841 гг. он был начальником офтальмологического института в Варшаве. Он опубликовал ряд научных работ.
