Скончалась от сепсиса в американском госпитале. "В 1944 г. Белла тяжело заболела, и Шагал отвез ее в госпиталь. Госпиталь оказался католическим и отказался принять еврейку. Шагал не владел английским языком, и не смог убедить врачей принять ее. Лишенная медицинской помощи Белла умерла у ворот госпиталя."
